Sarah Moon, Now and Then © Sarah Moon The new exhibition of Sarah Moon’s work coincides with that of her husband Robert Delpire. Entitled Now and Then, it presents a series of pictures taken throughout her career. A career that began during her career as a fashion model in the 1960’s. A career that naturally turned towards photography with the same style, attention to beauty and elegance, and tainted with a particular atmosphere, often dark and enigmatic despite the formal staging. Publications in some of the world’s greatest magazines, remarkable exhibitions and honorable prizes followed: Sarah Moon has what it takes to be a star photographer, but also knows how to treat documentary stories like her 1995 story about Henri Cartier-Bresson. This week at the Howard Greenberg Gallery, beautiful portraits of women, still lifes, landscapes, animals; all with the astonishing black and white hue borrowed from 19th century photography.
